Sam Steele Days a well behaved weekend

Cranbrook RCMP would like to give kudos to Cranbrook and area citizens and visitors over the Sam Steele Days weekend.

Police calls for service dropped by over one third compared to last year’s event and only three 90-day roadside prohibitions were issued in the city for impaired driving with one more in the Wycliffe area.

“Cranbrook detachment’s goal for the event was deterrence through visibility. Though one impaired driver on our roads is one too many, the relatively low numbers despite substantial increases in road blocks and vehicle checks is indicative of success,” said Sgt. Barry Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Operations NCO.

“We would also like to acknowledge the Sam Steele Society for the detailed coordination that contributed to the safety plans as well as acknowledge our partners East Kootenay Traffic Services and the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch for their participation,” he said.
