Saturday’s Torch Run in support of Special Olympics

Calling all runners!

Cranbrook RCMP is inviting members of the public to run in this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics.

Every year Law Enforcement Torch Runs are held in more than 51 countries around the world to support Special Olympics and raises awareness to the program. The funds raised help with high quality training and competition for the over 4,800 registered athletes in British Columbia.

The local Cranbrook athletes and volunteers are a committed group spending tireless hours supporting each other for the improvement of health, sport and competition. Our local athletes have consistently been on the world stage proudly representing Cranbrook and Special Olympics BC.

This year, Cranbrook RCMP has teamed up with the Cranbrook Safeway to hold the Torch Run from the Baker Street store this Saturday June 22 at 11:30 a.m.

The run starts at Safeway on Baker Street and proceeds down Baker Street, up 8th to 2nd and back to Safeway on Baker St.

At the same time, Canada Safeway LTD is hosting a food fair, in support of Special Olympics Canada.

Customers are treated to a number of food kiosks throughout the store and can sample various foods. There will be a barbecue outside for everyone to enjoy with funds going to support our local Special Olympics group.  Our local athletes will be at various stations throughout the store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Safeway is also providing free cake at the entrance to the store.

Cranbrook RCMP, Law Enforcement Torch Run, and Safeway Canada are very proud of our local Special Olympic athletes and are inviting the public to Safeway this Saturday to meet some of the athletes who this run supports.

The following motto of the Special Olympics will give you an idea of the athlete’s outlook to sport and life: “Let me win, but if I can’t win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
