Six-storey apartment building approved

City of Cranbrook council last night passed official community plan and zoning amendment bylaws, approving a proposed 71-unit, six-storey building at 1716 – 4th St. North.

Council adopted Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 4055, 2021 and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 4056, 2021 – West Urban Development – 1716 – 4th Street North.

The building will be six-storeys in height and comprise one-and-two-bedroom, rental units. The project will provide a long-term rental option, close to shopping, cycle/walking trail, and within walking distance of transit routes and the downtown.

Council held a Public Hearing for the bylaws October 25, later passing third readings to both the proposed OCP and Zoning amendment bylaws.

The Advisory Planning Commission (APC) reviewed the proposed bylaw amendments and recommended council approve them.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has also approved the proposed zoning amendment.
