Smile Cookies raise $16,251 for MRI

This year marked the 11th year of the Tim Hortons annual Smile Cookie Campaign to support health care throughout the East Kootenay, raising $16, 251 in just one week!

It was all smiles as Matt Gareau, General Manager for the Cranbrook Tim Hortons along with local store managers came together with East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) and the Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary for the cheque presentation.

“This year’s Smile Cookie Campaign was a resounding success. We were thrilled to see how our amazing customers came out in record numbers to purchase a Smile Cookie to help bring the permanent MRI to our hospital. I would like to thank everyone who purchased a cookie to improve healthcare for all residents of the East Kootenay,” Gareau said.

Kate Fox, Director CHCA and convenor of the campaign in our hospital said, “It was like no other.”

Everyone wanted in on the campaign to raise funds for the MRI.  The Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary sold an amazing 3,360 cookies that week. Thank you to the Gareau family who have always supported our regional hospital.

President Bonnie Close would also like to thank all of the volunteers who came forward to sell and purchase the cookies.”

Currently the East Kootenay region has access to the Mobile MRI unit for one week per month, sharing this unit with Trail and Penticton. The limited access to the Mobile unit has meant long wait times and in many instances patient travel outside the region to access MRI services in Kelowna or Calgary.

“The addition of the MRI at East Kootenay Regional Hospital will make it a truly regional hospital, and we are thrilled to have Tim Hortons continued support to help our hospital complete the vision set out years ago,” said Cassandra Schwarz, EKFH Executive Director.

Over the past 11 years the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign has raised over $120,000 towards improving our local healthcare, proving the difference the community can make when we come together for healthcare.
