Social programs open house and homeless count upcoming

This March, Cranbrook is one of over 20 communities across British Columbia conducting a homeless count.

The Cranbrook homeless count will occur over 24 hours beginning the evening of March 10 and will include counts in shelters, RCMP holding cells, hospitals, and other known places where individuals at risk may stay overnight.

The following morning, On March 11, there will be an unsheltered count that provides an opportunity for individuals who did not stay at a shelter but are experiencing homelessness or unconventionally housed to count themselves in.

Each person ‘counted’ will be asked to complete a survey with a trained volunteer about their living situation.

Information gathered by the count will help provide a picture of homelessness in Cranbrook and will work to inform the housing needs for at-risk individuals. The data collected during the count will be analyzed, with full results being available publicly in the fall.

Identifying the housing needs in Cranbrook is an essential piece to help future planning for our community. If you need a home, we need to know.

If you are unconventionally housed (camping, staying with friends, living in a vehicle/RV) Come on out, meet with over 20 local agencies sharing resources and information about the many valuable social programs operating in the community and count yourself in at the Connections Open House on Wednesday March 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Connections Building, 209A 16th Avenue N., featuring free breakfast and haircuts; giveaways and food packages to take home.
