Spring Break is coming, are you ready?

Spring break for the kids is coming up; do you have a plan?

If not, I have some suggestions for you to keep the kids busy and engaged. Depending on our weather you may be able to break out the bikes or take the sleds out for a slide.

Free or Cheap

  1. Idlewild, Elizabeth Lake, Rotary Trail, Rails 2 Trails, Cranbrook Community Forest. South Star Trails. Take a walk somewhere – can you find signs of spring?
  2. Sledding – weather and snow permitting – Idlewild and St Mary’s School.
  3. Outdoor skating – again weather and ice permitting – Baker Park, Pop Price, Idlewild, Fort Steele or check with City of Cranbrook Community Services for indoor skating times.
  4. South Star Area – cross country skiing and snowshoeing or a hike.Β 
  5. Cranbrook Public Library – They have Baby Lap time, Preschool and Toddler Storytime. Pick up some spring themed books. Check out their calendar of Spring Break Events on their Facebook page.
  6. Wiggle, Giggle and Grow – Wednesday March 20, and Wednesday, Mar. 27 – 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for ages 0-6 at Cranbrook Family Connections (next to Core Fitness) check out the CAPC Facebook Page
  7. Tumble Time – Monday, March 18 and Monday, March 25 – 10-11 a.m., Thursday, March 21 and Thursday, Mar. 28 – 9:30-11 a.m. for ages 0-6 at St Mary’s School. Check out the CAPC Facebook Page.
  8. Fort Steele – check out the animals. Are the lambs out yet? – by donation 10 a.m. -4 p.m. daily.
  9. Wildhorse Theatre at Fort Steele: Showing all three Lego Movies, $5 per person, under fives are free. Week of March 25, check out their Facebook Page for show times.
  10. Drive out to the Kootenay Trout Hatchery (pictured above).
  11. Check out a new playground – Rotary Park (downtown) McKinnon Park, Pop Price Park, Idlewild, Gyro playground.
  12. Check out Pinterest and grab some crafting supplies from Crafty Creations at the Child Care Resource and Referral office (across from Safeway) or the Dollar Store.
  13. Go splash in some puddles.
  14. Build a fort in the living room and watch a movie.
  15. Bake some cookies – again a great resource is Pinterest or just Google it.

1) City of Cranbrook –

  1. A) Spring Break Swimming Lessons: Check out the Community Services Guide on the City of Cranbrook website, or call 250-489-0220.
  2. B) City of Cranbrook Spring Break camps – Ages 5-12, the city is running a camp for each week of spring break. Check out Community Services Guide or call 250-489-0220.

2) Arq Mountain Centre Cranbrook – Spring Camp programs check out their website www.arqmountaincentre.com or Facebook.

3) Blue Lake Camp – Day camps out of Idlewild and overnight camps up at their Blue Lake Camp facility. http://columbiaoutdoorschool.com/

4) Key City Gymnastics – spring break camps and programs. Call them at 250-426-2090 or check out their website – http://keycitygymnastics.ca.

5) Kimberley Alpine Resort – Down Hill Skiing, Lessons, half and full day skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing.

6) Fairmont Hot Springs/Radium Hot Springs – Go and have a soak in the hot springs.

7) Toy Lending Library – Located at the Child Card Resource & Referral Office (CCRR) Memberships are $35.00 per year and start April 1.
