Thefts keep police busy over Sam Steele weekend
Cranbrook RCMP responded to just over 70 calls this weekend but is pleased to report that few had to do with the Sam Steele Days festivities.
Thefts from motor vehicles seems to be the trend in the Key City this past month, with this weekend being no exception, reported Cst. Katie Forgeron. Three vehicles were reportedly broken into this weekend with several items taken including binoculars and a SONY camcorder. The camcorder contained footage of the owners’ family and they are hoping to get those precious memories back.
Police advise you should keep items out of sight and remember to lock your vehicles.
Two people have been arrested and investigations are still ongoing in four separate assault calls over the weekend. RCMP was called to an altercation between two youths. One has been arrested and released with a court date.
A second assault investigation took RCMP to Tie Lake where a male was taken into custody for assault. He will appear before the courts in August.
Although numerous vehicles were pulled over during check stops over the weekend, Cranbrook RCMP only took two drivers off the roadways for having consumed too much alcohol. One male was issued a three-day driving prohibition while a female was given a 24-hour suspension from driving.
“Cranbrook RCMP believe the high visibility of members, along with common sense from residents of Cranbrook and those visiting our area, kept people from driving under the influence of alcohol this weekend,” said Cst. Forgeron.
