Wildstone Drive development public hearing July 19
City of Cranbrook council June 28 passed the second reading of an amendment to the Official Community Plan (OCP) and first and second reading of an amendment to the Zoning Bylaw for a proposed 237-unit multi-family, rental apartment development on Wildstone Drive.
On June 14, council deferred consideration of the proposed bylaws, with the first reading passed May 31, and directed city staff to conduct a Committee-of-the-Whole meeting to give council an opportunity to seek clarification regarding the proposed expanded density of the development.
Once the public became aware of the proposed amendments “verbal calls and numerous emails and letters” were received. “Most calls sought general information, and indicated concerns about proposed density, increased traffic, or potential blocking of views, an Engineering and Development Services report to council stated.
“A number of common questions and concerns have been raised in correspondence received from existing Wildstone residents regarding proposed development on Lot 5, Wildstone Drive,” the report added.
The Committee-of-the-Whole meeting was held Monday, June 21.
The proposed OCP amendment and Zoning amendment will now be referred to the Advisory Planning Commission for a recommendation, advertised in the local newspaper, and circulated to adjacent property owners and occupants for comment as part of the required public notification.
The zoning amendment will also be referred to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for approval.
A public hearing for ‘OCP Bylaw Amendment No 4047, 2021 and Zoning Bylaw Amendment No. 4048, 2021 – Lot 5, Wildstone Drive’ is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, July 19.
