Avalanche control closing highway at Kootenay Pass

DriveBC reports that Highway 3 will be closed between 4 and 7 p.m. PST this afternoon/evening at Kootenay Pass due to avalanche control.
An alternate route is available from Nelson to Creston via Kootenay Lake Ferry and Highway 3A, with an estimated travel time 2.5 hours.
Meanwhile, continued light but steady snowfall is keeping regional highways covered with compact snow.
Black ice is reported on Highway 3 between Sparwood and Fernie, along Highway 95 between Curzon Junction and the Idaho border and on Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park.
