Canada’s democracy is at risk

Letter to the Editor

Justin Trudeau is rigging Canada’s elections to benefit the Liberal Party.

He recently introduced legislation that restricts his political opponents from using grassroots fundraising in the lead-up to the next election.

When Justin Trudeau’s opponents can’t get their message out, Canadians lose the freedom to make a choice with their ballot.

And that’s exactly what Justin Trudeau wants.

Yet, even worse, Justin Trudeau will continue using taxpayer dollars to campaign through government spending announcements, travel and advertising.

And his bill protects well-funded outside groups that do the dirty work of the Liberal Party.

This is wrong.

Every day, more and more Canadians see Justin Trudeau’s failures – so he is changing Canada’s election rules to cling to any advantage he can.

Canada’s Conservatives know that these changes will not improve Canada’s democracy, but only hurt it.

Our democratic system is envied by people around the world, who don’t always enjoy the same freedoms that we do.

It belongs to every single Canadian.

We will continue to fight Justin Trudeau’s unfair rules and ensure that our democratic system is protected every step of the way.

Blake Richards,

Shadow Minister for Democratic Institutions,

Member of Parliament for Banff-Airdrie
