Candidate says he is committed to defending freedoms

Letter to the Editor

Conservatives are concerned for the freedom of speech of Canadians since the NDP teamed up with the Liberals to shut down debate on Bill C-10, forcing the bill through Parliament without proper discussions. In a democratic society, abuses of power and authority can and should be called out without fear of retribution.

Canadians rely on social media for information, connectivity, and entertainment more than ever before, and yet the NDP/Liberal coalition government is quietly moving to radically change how Canadians use the Internet.

In a society that values transparency, freedom of speech and expression, Bill C-10 leaves the door wide open for an abuse of power on the rights of Canadians.

Unfortunately, we are seeing this unfold in real time this election. Just last week after being asked for answers on a key topic, the NDP Candidate blocked Kootenay-Columbians from his social media, restricting the discourse that is part of the democratic process.

A Conservative government will stand up for the fundamental freedoms of Canadians, including freedom of speech, expression and the freedom to choose. Working hard for you.

Rob Morrison,

Conservative Party incumbent candidate for Kootenay-Columbia
