CFKR provides over $37,000 in COVID-19 grants
Thanks to support from the Vancouver Foundation and the Cranbrook Stay At Home Gala, the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) has provided $37,903.05 in COVID-19 grants to the local charities.
Following a generous contribution of $28,500 from the Vancouver Foundation’s COVID-19 Responsive Grant, CFKR has awarded nine grants to support the most vulnerable residents in our communities:
- Elkford Women’s Task Force Society: $3,000;
- Sparwood Food Bank: $3,000;
- Fernie Women’s Resource and Drop-in Centre: $1,000;
- Rocky Mountain Village Auxiliary Society (Fernie): $1,000;
- Senior Citizens Club of Fernie and District: $1,000;
- Cranbrook Food Bank Society: $5,000;
- Cranbrook Salvation Army: $5,000;
- Ktunaxa Nation – Operation Street Angel: $4,750;
- Community Connections Society of Southeast BC: $4,750.
With amazing support from local individuals, businesses, and sponsors, CFKR raised $9,403.05 through the Cranbrook Stay At Home Gala, a virtual event which was held on May 2, 2020. CFKR granted 100% of the gala’s proceeds to two local charities that are providing frontline services during COVID-19: Cranbrook Food Bank Society – $4,701.52 and Cranbrook Salvation Army – $4,701.53
Michele Bates, CFKR Board Chair, stated “We deeply appreciate the support from the Vancouver Foundation as well as everyone who made the Cranbrook Stay At Home Gala such a success.”
“The Community Foundation recognizes the hard work, dedication, and creativity of these local charities, and we are honoured to be able to support them, as they work to help our most vulnerable citizens cope with COVID-19,” Bates added.
