Columbia Basin social enterprise goes Canada‐wide
After piloting its Non-profit Outdoor Learning Store in June 2020 in the Columbia Basin, the Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network (CBEEN) expanded in September to offer this to the rest of British Columbia.
As a result of that success, CBEEN has now opened this social enterprise to the rest of the country, launching Canada’s Non-profit Outdoor Learning Store on March 1.
Not only will this social enterprise provide educators from across Canada with easy access to excellent outdoor and environmental learning resources, but it will also bring financial support and resources to non-profit outdoor and environmental learning programs.
“With society recognizing more and more that outdoor and environmental learning is essential to supporting our health, including the health of our planet, we are very grateful to be able to offer this at this time,” reflected Duncan Whittick, CBEEN’s Executive Director.
One of the Outdoor Learning Store’s Indigenous Advisors, Jenna Jesak, shared: “I am very excited to have access to local outdoor educational resources which also incorporate local Indigenous content. I cannot wait to use the resources with my students and my own children!”
In order to support the successful implementation of these resources and equipment, CBEEN has partnered up with 20 other outdoor learning non-profits from across the country to offer a series of free spring virtual workshops with some of the top names in the field.
