Environment Canada issues snowfall warning

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for the Elk Valley and Cranbrook/Kimberley areas.

Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected.

“A slow-moving frontal system will bring snow to the area today and tonight. Snow will begin this morning and then continue through tonight, giving 10 to 20 cm of snow by Wednesday morning,” Environment Canada reported.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd.’s meteorological service also predicts that local snowfall will be higher in the northern and higher elevation locations of the service area, though Environment Canada has not included the Columbia Valley or Kootenay National Park in its warning.
