Factors that influence fire behaviour

By BC Wildfire Service

Recently, many regions of B.C. have experienced several days of hot and dry conditions. This pattern has dried out forest fuels and grasses, making it very easy for fires to start and grow quickly.

Today (Saturday), an unstable weather pattern is forecast to move across the Southern and Central Interior, bringing gusty winds and dry lightning. In the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, afternoon winds could gust up to 60 kilometres per hour.

With this change in the weather, we could see more aggressive fire behaviour where fires are already burning, and potentially new starts from dry lightning.

We ask everyone to take care while recreating, refer to trusted information sources like our app and report all wildfires. You can report a wildfire by calling 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone, or use the “Report a Fire” function in our app, attaching a photo with your report.
