Final games to determine playoff match-ups

The final weekend of Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) regular season play is here and upcoming playoff match-ups will be determined.

The Columbia Valley Rockies (22-20-1-4 for 49 points) hold down third place in the Eddie Mountain Division by one point ahead of the Golden Rockets (22-22-2-2 – 48 pts). However, the Rockies have a game in hand.

The Kimberley Dynamiters are the runaway leaders of the division, with a 41 wins, four losses, one tie and one overtime loss record. The club’s 84 points is tops in the Kootenay Conference and second overall in the league.

Twenty-seven points behind the Nitros is the second place Fernie Ghostriders (25-15-3-4 – 57 pts), a team Golden is cheering for this weekend.

The Rockies are in Fernie this evening (Feb. 22). Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Fernie Memorial Arena.

And Fernie heads to Invermere to take on the Rockies at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena to conclude the season. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Two Rockies losses and a Rockets win to close the season would mean Columbia Valley has to face the giant – Kimberley – in the opening round, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The Nitros are in Creston taking on the last place Thundercats at the Johnny Bucyk Arena at 7:30 p.m.

And tomorrow, Feb. 23, Kimberley hosts the motivated Rockets at the Civic Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
