High temperature record shattered

With a high temperature of 40.5 C on Friday, August 10, the record for the highest daily temperature ever recorded in Cranbrook was shattered, according to Environment Canada and The Weather Network.

The previous highest temperature recorded in Cranbrook in August was 36.1 C on August 4, 1997. The highest temperature recorded in Cranbrook before was 36.6 C on July 21, 1985.

A new standard was also set in Sparwood, where its previous high temperature of 35.2 C, on August 4, 1997, was eclipsed with its August 10 high of 37.4 C.

Environment Canada only has recording stations in Cranbrook and Sparwood. It is likely that high temperatures were broken elsewhere in the region. Compare your community with information made available by The Weather Network.
