Improvements coming to some local roads

Work has begun in B.C.’s southern Interior to upgrade 482 kilometres of highways and side roads, with 62.5 km of East Kootenay roadways included.

Major resurfacing projects taking place in the region includes conventional resurfacing of 25.5 km of arterial and area side roads around Cranbrook and 37 km of seal coat work to Highway 93 from Roosville to the junction of Highway 3 at Elko.

Nearby, Highway 1 at Revelstoke is getting 15.2 km of conventional resurfacing.

Highway 3B in the Trail area  is getting 14 km of conventional resurfacing; Highway 22 from Trail to Castlegar  is getting 20 km of hot in-place recycling; Highway 31A from New Denver to Fish Lake (13 km) of conventional resurfacing; Highway 6 from Nakusp to Burton will get 36 km of hot in-place recycled asphalt resurfacing; Highway 33 from Beaverdell to Carmi (nine km) of conventional resurfacing; and 17 km of conventional resurfacing to Slocan Valley side roads.

In 2024, more than $122 million will be invested to resurface southern Interior highways and local roads, ensuring that drivers continue to have a safe and comfortable driving experience.

Drivers are reminded to observe construction zone speed limits and the direction of traffic-control personnel.
