JCI Kootenay receives national recognition
Local non-profit JCI Kootenay recently came home from the JCI Canada National Convention in Toronto with major accolades and recognition.
At the annual event that celebrates the accomplishments of organizations and their members across Canada, JCI Kootenay received the following awards:
- Chapter of the Year and Diamond Chapter Excellence;
- Most Outstanding Member of the Year: Sven Sloeserwij;
- Most Outstanding Family of the Year: Wayne Armstrong and Jessica Larson;
- Best Opportunity of the Year and Conference of the Year: BC/Yukon Regional Convention hosted by JCI Kootenay;
- Senator of the Year: Elizabeth Matejka;
- Best Training Opportunity of the Year: LOTS (Local Officer Training Seminar);
- Best Local Community Impact Program: Cranbrook Santa Claus Parade;
- Executive Committee Member of the Year: Chancellor Litke.
In addition to these awards, two JCI Kootenay members will be taking on prominent leadership roles with JCI Canada, seeing Jonah Gowans elected to Executive Vice President, and Chancellor Litke appointed as National Treasurer.
These two attendees also worked on a team with International Speaker, Filipe Carrera to win the National Debate Competition. Chancellor Litke participated in the National Effective Speaking Competition taking home first place in the Impromptu class and runner up in the Prepared class.
JCI Kootenay members are between the ages of 18-40, with the club providing professional development training and networking, social activities and gatherings, as well as giving back to the community through volunteering and project creation.
