June 14 lemonade sale in support of JoeAnna’s House
For the fourth year, a family-friendly FUNdraiser is in the works in communities across British Columbia. The Good Lemonade Day event will officially be held on Saturday, June 14.
The event was first organized in 2022 by a group of Kelowna volunteers as a way for children to get involved in philanthropy in a fun and rewarding way. A total of $17,000 was raised in each of the first two years. Last year, $26,720 was raised through family stands across B.C., as well as through events held at each Prestige Hotels and Resorts property in the province.
On average, Good Lemonade Day sees nearly 80 lemonade stands held all on the same day. 100% of the proceeds go to JoeAnna’s House in Kelowna, due to the generous sponsorship from Laing Roofing which covers all hard costs associated with the event.
Katie Maier, Director of Human Resources at Laing Roofing, says her company continues to support the event each year because of their sense of community and a drive to help others.
“Good Lemonade Day has been a community event that we look forward to participating in every year. We believe in giving back to the community we’ve worked with for 38 years and love the idea of connecting kids to philanthropy and doing good for others in a real and tangible way. Its a win-win event that is a ton of fun with great people for a great cause,” she said.
For Salmon Arm mom of five, Kayla Vannieuwenhuizen, the cause is a truly meaningful one. “This will be our third year participating in Good Lemonade Day and it’s something that’s really close to our family’s heart. When our daughter Hattie was born at 33 weeks in 2021, we stayed at Joeanna’s House for several weeks and the support we received there during such a challenging time was invaluable.
“Participating in this event allows us to give back to a place that played such a big role in our journey to where we all are today. I love being able to share this experience with Hattie – it’s a wonderful way for her to learn about kindness, community, and the power of helping others. Our hope is that she continues this lemonade stand for decades and having started so young, that it teaches her, and our other children who help that they can make a real difference, no matter how young they are.”
The 2025 event will be held on June 14 between 11-3 p.m. on driveways and neighborhoods across the province.
Each Prestige Hotels and Resorts property will also host a lemonade stand, and many locations are planning additional fun events like bake sales, car washes or silent auctions. They will also be selling paper lemons in the two weeks leading up to the event and displaying them on the walls of their lobbies.
All participants who sign up to host a lemonade stand will receive a free Good Lemonade Day starter pack that includes two event t-shirts, lemonade mix, balloons and a sign. All families who complete a lemonade stand will be entered into a draw to win a Family Getaway prize package at their choice of any Prestige Hotels and Resorts location in B.C.
The deadline to register to host a lemonade stand is May 20.
