Kootenay Rockies Tourism 2022 in review
As the tourism industry navigates through the global pandemic of COVID-19, the BC Regional Tourism Secretariat (BCRTS) provides baseline research to support the industry.
Baseline visitor analysis will help industry understand who is visiting so they can plan strategically to attract visitors who will support our recovery.
This report focuses on visitor analysis to the Kootenay Rockies region.
Key Findings:
- During 2019, Kootenay Rockies (KR) saw an average of 1,467,800 domestic visitors.
- During 2020, the region saw 1,686,300 domestic visitors; in 2021 1,846,100 domestic visitors; and in 2022, 2,158,000 domestic visitors.
- Canadian trips to KR – August 2022 saw a 14% increase compared to 2019, 19% decrease compared to 2020 and nine per cent decrease compared to 2021.
- B.C. trips to KR – August 2022 saw a three per cent increase compared to 2019, four per cent decrease compared to 2020 and seven per cent decrease compared to 2021.
- AB trips to KR – August 2022 saw a 24% increase compared to 2019, 20% increase compared to 2020 and 10% decrease compared to 2021.
