Local set to become BCPVPA president
David Thompson Secondary School principal Darren Danyluk is set to take over as B.C. Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA) president.
Danyluk (School District No. 6, Rocky Mountain) will assume the role July 1 when current President David DeRosa completes his two-year term. David will continue as Past President until June 30, 2021.
The membership of the BCPVPA selected new Directors of the Board in a vote that took place May 26 – 28.
Five members were elected as Directors of the Board for two-year terms. Tom Aerts (SD61, Greater Victoria), Heidi Grant (SD91, Nechako Lakes) and Brian Leonard (SD43, Coquitlam) were re-elected to the Board, and Sid Jawanda (SD57, Prince George) and Jacqueline Taylor (SD22, Vernon) are new Directors on the Board.
These members join the current Directors who complete their terms on June 30, 2021: Susan Clough (School District 36, Surrey), Carmen Eberle (School District 35, Langley), Bev Forster (School District 54, Bulkley Valley), Read Jorgensen (School District 61, Victoria) and Sally Zryd (School District 73, Kamloops-Thompson). The BCPVPA and its members thank Des Sjoquist (SD23, Central Okanagan), who will complete his current term on the Board on June 30, Joanne Beddoes (SD8, Kootenay Lake) and Darrin Olson (SD70, Alberni) for their candidacy. We also thank Brett Johnson (School District 61, Victoria) for his years of service, as Brett steps down from the Board June 30.
The board will continue to guide the BCPVPA’s focused work which includes seeking recognition by the B.C. government as the negotiating representative for our members, in order to ensure fair and equitable terms of employment for Principals and Vice-Principals; ongoing support of our members as they lead the operation of B.C.’s K-12 public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond; and the BCPVPA’s continued collaboration with government and education sector partners to better support leaders and their development at all levels in public education.
The B.C. Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association is a voluntary professional association representing more than 2,500 school leaders in BC’s 60 public school districts. The BCPVPA provides its members with the professional services and support they need to provide exceptional leadership in public education.
