Mainroad issues Weather Event Advisory for region

A weather event is anticipated to impact the East Kootenay within the next 12 to 24 hours.

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd.’s meteorological service is predicting snowfall of varying intensity, depending on location.

“Precipitation is forecast to vary from snow showers to isolated flurries.  We expect the mixed precipitation to continue intermittently with occasional clear breaks in most areas, until Wednesday morning,” Mainroad stated in an advisory.

“In most locations within the service area, we expect precipitation to start overnight Tuesday, falling as rain/ snow showers with isolated flurries, depending on location and tapering off Wednesday afternoon and evening.

“Motorists may notice our units throughout the afternoon and evening.  We will be proactively treating major routes with anti-icing chemicals ahead of the event arriving, where conditions allow.  Our crews will continue applying salt and/or winter abrasive, and performing snow removal operations, where necessary.  Motorists should expect unsettled weather, drive to the prevailing conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather.”

Mainroad’s 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on your observations and concerns when contacted. Communications and dispatch: 1-800-665-4929.
