Mainroad warns of snowfall and plunging temperatures

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. is warning on social about significant snowfall and plunging temperatures expected to impact the region within the next 72 hours.

“Weather reports predict moderate snow accumulations developing on Saturday, turning to heavy snowfall during the weekend. The heavy snow is anticipated to continue until at least Monday. At the same time, temperatures are predicted to drop well below freezing and the colder than usual conditions are expected to remain even after the snowfall has ended. Accumulations and temperatures will vary within the service area,” Mainroad stated.

Mainroad crews will be proactively treating the highways with anti-icing chemicals prior to the weather event.

“During it, they will continue to apply anti-icing chemicals and/or winter abrasive, and conduct snow removal as required. This process will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways return to the acceptable, normal standard,” Mainroad outlined.

Motorists are reminded to be prepared for the winter driving conditions and check DriveBC or e-KNOW’s front page for the latest on conditions before heading out. Please allow for extra travel time and drive with caution.
