Making good

District of Invermere Mayor and Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board director Gerry Taft made a bold fashion statement during the April 4 board meeting.

Wearing a sharp black, red and white sweater with a star-bursting stick of dynamite, Taft was making good on a bet he made with City of Kimberley Mayor and RDEK director Don McCormick on the outcome of the Kimberley Dynamiters and Columbia Valley Rockies’ Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoff round series.

The losing team’s mayor had to wear the winning team’s jersey at the next board meeting.

“It’s very comfortable,” Taft said. “I hope sometime around next year he is wearing a Columbia Valley Rockies’ jersey,” he said of the mayor sitting across from him at the board table.

“It was a really awesome competition this year. A very successful year for all the clubs in the East Kootenay,” McCormick said of the Nitros, who finished third in the province and captured the KIJHL crown.

“Both Invermere Mayor Gerry and I have donned Kimberly jerseys because their team won over ours. Perhaps next year it can be reversed,” she noted on Facebook.
