New videos support expectant parents in East Kootenay

Two new video resources offer a behind-the-scenes look at local maternity care

Expectant parents in the East Kootenay now have access to two new video resources designed to support them through every stage of pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum care.

The videos provide an inside look at Encompass Pregnancy Care Cranbrook (EPCC) and a personalized tour of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) Maternity Ward. Together, these videos are designed to highlight the exceptional care and services available, and help families feel informed, confident, and excited about the journey ahead.

The Encompass Pregnancy Care Cranbrook video introduces you to several of the pregnancy care providers—which includes family physicians, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals—and walks you through the culture of care from both the providers perspective and a recent patient experience.

EPCC is part of the East Kootenay Primary Care Network (PCN), a network of team-based care providers in the region. By being part of the primary care network and located in Interior Health’s Urgent & Primary Care Centre in Cranbrook, parents attending EPCC have one-stop access to team-based care, such as mental wellness clinicians, physiotherapists, social workers, and more.

The second video, Your Maternity Care Journey at EKRH, takes families on a guided tour of the maternity ward at East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Viewers will learn what to expect when arriving at the hospital, see the labour and delivery rooms, and hear from providers and parents who recently delivered.

The video highlights the hospital’s culturally safe, family-centred approach, and introduces the dedicated maternity team supporting families throughout their birthing experience.

“I get to work with a fantastic team of highly skilled, professional people who are so very dedicated. They are patient-centred, and so attuned to making the environment comfortable for our patients,” said Lynn Robertson, Clinical Operations Manager, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and NICU at EKRH.

The video project was spearheaded by the East Kootenay Division of Family Practice, in partnership with Interior Health, Encompass Pregnancy Care Cranbrook, and supported by Shared Care. It reflects a commitment to supporting the maternity care experience across the region by ensuring care is accessible, inclusive, and patient-informed.
