“This is has been a detailed process, which started with a request from a community group who wanted us to investigate what a mosquito control program could look like and what it would cost,” explained Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Board Chair and Electoral Area C Director Rob Gay. “We have compiled the information and presented it to the community, and it’s now time for the community to decide.”

General voting will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wardner Community Hall. Advance voting will be held on November 9 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wardner Community Hall.

The proposed Service Area boundary includes Mayook and portions of Bull River (excluding the townsite of Wardner).

A copy of the information package, elector eligibility requirements and voting information is listed on the RDEK’s website at www.rdek.bc.ca. Anyone without access to a computer can contact the RDEK office and the information can be sent to them.

The RDEK held a public meeting in June and a second open house last week to provide residents with information and answer questions about the proposed service.

“We want to make sure people have the information they need to make an informed decision when they vote,” stressed Gay. “I encourage anyone with outstanding questions to contact our office and get their questions answered prior to voting day.”
