RCMP boat patrols coming for Lake Koocanusa
Elk Valley Regional RCMP officers are once again operating on Lake Koocanusa.
Boat patrols, which are being supported by personnel from Elk Valley Regional RCMP and other RCMP Southeast District units, will be ongoing during various days of the week and holidays throughout the summer.
“Patrols will focus on enforcing impaired boating investigations, marine/boat safety checks and other police related activities impacting the lake area during our patrols. Our first day on the water was yesterday (please see attached photo) as a warm- up for the upcoming weekend,” reported detachment commander S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen.
Elk Valley RCMP reminds boaters that everyone who operates a power-driven pleasure craft must carry proof of competency on board – this includes an Operator Card and proof that you’ve passed a boating safety course in Canada.
“Further, we remind boaters that drinking and driving, whether on land or water, is illegal and punishable under the Criminal Code of Canada and other provincial statutes. Please use your boat safely and within your and your boat’s limits – speed is just as much as factor in boating fatalities as it is on land,” S/Sgt. Nielsen said.
“Elk Valley Regional RCMP look forward to seeing you on the lake this summer!”
