SAR groups team to rescue injured hiker

Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was called out to assist Kimberley SAR with the rescue of an injured hiker on June 21.

A 35-year-old man, celebrating Father’s Day with his father, fell in snow on Bootleg Mountain and slid at speed into a tree, sustaining a serious lower leg injury.

Fernie SAR’s CDFL team, working with Bighorn Helicopters, was able to rescue the man and his father and deliver them to Kimberley SAR for further treatment and transport to hospital.

All three Fernie SAR CDFL Technicians who participated are fathers and were happy to help make this Father’s Day end right, Fernie SAR reported on social media.
