SAR teams combine to rescue hikers

Late last night (July 2), Kimberley and Cranbrook Search and Rescue (SAR) teams were tasked to rescue some hikers who had lost the trail on a high mountain ridge.

In a social media post, Kimberley SAR reported the hikers did the right thing and stopped and called 911.

“Ground crews were mobilized and reached the subjects, but it was too dangerous to come down at night. This morning at first light everyone was flown out by Big Horn Helicopters,” SAR stated.

“When you call for Search and Rescue, remember there is no charge and before you go, file a trip plan and take the essentials which can be found at adventuresmart.ca. Conditions in our mountains can change in a heartbeat.”
