SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of board motions carried during the February 14 School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board of Trustees’ Meeting in Cranbrook.

MOTIONS CARRIED

Advocacy

That the board support signing the Water Leadership Protocol for the Joseph Creek Urban Stream Management Delivery Framework Initiative.

That the board writes a letter to School District No. 43 to remind them that all boards should be working together to advocate for increased funding to districts.

Jim Whitehead

That the board writes a letter to Jim Whitehead recognizing his term as Chief of Aqam.

That the board writes a letter to the Minister of Finance in support of BCSTA’s letter of November 25, 2016.

That the board writes a letter to the BCSTA in support of SD61’s letter of October 28, 2016.

Student Services

That the board writes a letter to the Minister of Health (cc our local MP) asking for additional provincial funding for mental health.

Policy

That Revised Policy 3.7 Code of Conduct be sent to the Board of Education for approval.

That Draft Policy 3.9 Physical Restraint and Seclusion be sent to the Board of Education for approval.

Final reading * of the Amended Annual Budget Bylaw for 2016/17.

First reading of the 17/18 Annual Budget Bylaw.

That the Board approves the attendance of Trustees Trina Ayling and Patricia Whalen to attend the Columbia Institute’s ‘High Ground’ conference in March.

* By law, three readings of the Budget bylaw must be completed prior to the end of June each year.
