Severe thunderstorm watch for East Kootenay

Environment Canada has today issued another severe thunderstorm watch covering most of the East Kootenay and Creston areas.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop late this afternoon and are expected to continue through this evening, Environment Canada reported.

The storm watch does not include Kootenay National Park.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Environment Canada also today ended its special air quality statement for the Elk Valley.
