Severe thunderstorm watch in effect

Environment Canada earlier this morning (June 13) issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the East Kootenay.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada stated.

“A strong southerly flow of very unstable air will move into southeast B.C. today. The threat of severe thunderstorms is expected this afternoon.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
