Shoulder mowing delayed due to fire hazard

Mainroad East Kootenay reports its mowing schedule for road shoulders is being delayed due to the extreme fire hazard conditions.

“Currently, side roads in the Columbia Valley and Elk Valley area are being mowed with one tractor for limited working hours due to the fire rating being at Danger Class 4 – High,” Mainroad noted in a message to stakeholders.

“Mainroad crews are consistently reviewing the fire safety of our mowing operations and will proceed with mowing in accordance with the Southeast BC Wildfire ratings. However, our crews are actively monitoring visual sightlines throughout the service area and will hand cut tall grassed areas where necessary to minimize visual obstructions.”
