Shypitka says NDP should be proud of resource sector

In Question Period Feb. 16 in the B.C. Legislature, Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka questioned why the NDP government is ashamed of B.C.’s natural resource sector

He highlighted that NDP Premier David Eby has consistently ignored LNG in his first 90 days — not even mentioning it at the Natural Resource Forum in Prince George last month — and wonders how workers in the resource industry are supposed to trust a government that is so ashamed of their industry.

“This is not the first time the NDP has proven to be unsupportive of our resource industry,” said Shypitka, Shadow Minister for Mines and Low Carbon Innovation.

Just last spring, Boundary-Similkameen MLA Roly Russell said, “all indicators are that future LNG expansion isn’t the answer.”

“This government has a history of disparaging the LNG industry that provides thousands of jobs to individuals throughout British Columbia,” Shypitka said, adding the NDP needs to focus on creating jobs and opportunities in the sector, rather than insulting workers.
