Small fire reported off Wardner-Fort Steele Road

The BC Wildfire Service is today (July 23) reporting a new wildfire began overnight near Norbury Creek, about half a kilometre west of Wardner-Fort Steele Road, five km south of Norbury Lake Provincial Park.

The fire is an estimated .01 hectare and its cause is listed by BC Wildfire Service as unknown at this time.

It is the only fire currently listed on BC Wildfire Service’s Wildfire Dashboard in the East Kootenay.

However, the lightning-caused fire reported in Stevens Creek west of Bugaboo Provincial Park (west of Brisco) July 20 remains out of control and has grown to .2 ha.

A number of fires are being reported in the Central Kootenay, including a five fire cluster on Frog Peak, nine km northwest of Slocan Park.

Eleven new fires have been reported in the province in the past two days.
