Small fire southeast of Fort Steele

UPDATE: This fire has been knocked down.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports there is a .3 hectare person-caused fire currently burning to the east of the CP Rail line and Kootenay River about nine km southeast of Fort Steele.

It is the only reported active fire in the East Kootenay, aside from the Verdant Creek blaze burning in Kootenay National Park and Assiniboine Provincial Park, at this time.

BCWS notes there are two active wildfires close to the region, including a 1.1 ha fire that begin July 10 in Glacier Creek, on the western side of the Purcells.

And a three-hectare fire that began July 14 is still burning northeast of Johnsons Landing at Winters Creek.
