Start-Up business advisor service now available

New entrepreneurs across the Kootenay-Boundary region can now access free one-on-one business support through the Start-Up Business Advisor service.

Delivered by Community Futures Central Kootenay, the service helps entrepreneurs turn business ideas into sustainable careers by offering personalized business advice and guidance during the critical early stages of business development.

“A lot of entrepreneurs put in the work. They research, plan, and develop their business model,” said Andrea Wilkey, Executive Director of Community Futures Central Kootenay. “But when you’re starting a business, there are always things you don’t know yet. The Start-Up Business Advisor service connects entrepreneurs with experienced advisors who can help them spot gaps, avoid common mistakes, and focus on what will help their business succeed.”

The service is part of the Southern Interior Business Advisor Initiative and is funded through ETSI-BC.

It is available to entrepreneurs throughout the Kootenay-Boundary region, including Creston, Cranbrook, Fernie, Golden, Nelson, Castlegar, Nakusp, Trail, Rossland, Grand Forks, and surrounding rural communities.

The advising team includes Sasha Stout, Start-Up Business Advisor and Intake Coordinator, who has experience owning and operating businesses in Revelstoke and Nelson. Amber McGregor also works as a Start-Up Business Advisor and brings more than 20 years of experience helping entrepreneurs with business planning, launch, and growth.

Participants receive three virtual one-on-one advising sessions over a six-week period, along with practical support tailored to their business goals.
