Stay vigilant and watch for smoke

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is reminding residents that lightning strikes can smoulder for days until they are detected.

“We all need to be vigilant out there and watch for smoke. This past Sunday the Baynes Lake Fire Department firefighters responded to a small fire that was most likely caused by a lightning strike from a week ago,” the RDEK noted on Facebook.

If you see signs of a wildfire, report it to 1-800-663-5555 (by landline) or *5555 (by cell).
