Step back a spell at Deadman Junction Ranch

Road Trippin’ Thompson River Country

“Did you see that?”

We both said it at the same. Lovers of exploring ghost towns and such, our eyes caught onto a glimpse of an old western town front.

We turned around and found Deadman Junction Ranch, located west of Savona on the north side of Highway 1.

I’ve been driving this stretch of highway for decades but apparently not much lately because there is now a really cool old wild west ‘town’ one can pop into when in the Kamloops/Cache Creek areas.

Since 2011 owner Matt Sandvoss has been building a collection of late 1800s artifacts and old west buildings, original and replicas and the site has already been used for motion picture and television projects, thanks to a saloon, trading post, jail, undertakers and more, complete with a colourful old west character on hand to greet you.

Deadman Junction Ranch is generally open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission is by suggested donation.

This is definitely a fine leg-stretch locale and much-recommended for those traveling in the Thompson River Country between Cache Creek and Kamloops.
