Two more fires added to regional count

Two new wildfires in the East Kootenay have been added to the BC Wildfire Service Wildfire Dashboard today (July 25).

The first of the two new fires in the East Kootenay is at Teepee Creek, about 30 km southeast of Cranbrook. The .5-hectare fire is lightning caused.

The second new fire is high up on Bonner Mountain, north of Redding Creek and about 12 km west of St. Mary Lake. The cause of the .01-ha fire is unknown.

Meanwhile, four fires reported July 24 are now under control, including a .1 ha fire on the south side of St. Mary Road, west of Kimberley.

Three small fires in the Picture Valley/Norbury Creek area are now under control and a .2 ha fire in South Teepee Creek is also under control.

Just outside the region, there is a new person-caused fire at Mountain Creek. The 1.1 ha fire is likely visible north of Highway 1, 22 km west of Donald.

The Stevens Creek fire west of Bugaboo Provincial Park, which began July 20, remains out-of-control at.2 ha.

Weather conditions for most of the region feature plenty of sunshine and heat (between 30 and 35 C) for at least the next week.
