Two opportunities to make a choice
By Norma Blissett
Op-Ed Commentary
This fall British Columbians are fortunate to have two opportunities to make a choice about government. First, the municipal election, October 17 and then in the provincial election, October 24.
Some have objected to having a provincial election in addition to the municipal election, but I believe voting is privilege and that we should take advantage of the opportunity to have a say in who forms government.
I have been Cranbrook City Councillor for the past 12 years and a Regional District of East Kootenay director for the past four years as well as sitting on the Kootenay East Regional Hospital District. I am aware that the decisions made by local government can have a significant impact on the lives of local residents. Please exercise your right to vote in this municipal election. It makes a difference.
My experience in local government has also enlightened me as to the impact of the provincial government on the lives of our citizens. British Columbians are under attack from the United States. Our jobs are threatened and costs are increasing as a result of tariffs.
David Eby and the BCNDP have a plan to keep fighting back, to free B.C.’s economy from the United States, lower costs and recruit more healthcare workers. The BCNDP will never stop fighting for British Columbia and Canada. The conservative parties, no matter who’s leading them, would cozy up to Trump, cut healthcare and hike costs for working people.
We can’t afford their cuts, costs or chaos, especially now.
British Columbians have a choice to make on how we move forward. I’m proud to stand with the BCNDP to keep fighting for B.C. jobs to make our economy less dependent on the US, to keep investing in healthcare to make sure that people in our region can get the care they need when they need it and to protect British Columbians from the rising cost of basics such gas, groceries and housing.
Let’s take advantage of this opportunity and vote on October 24.
