Wayne Stetski running for BC NDP in Kootenay East

Wayne Stetski, former Member of Parliament and Mayor of Cranbrook, is running to be MLA in the Kootenay East.

“John Horgan has been an excellent leader through this difficult pandemic, and British Columbia is recognized for having one of the best responses in the world,” said Stetski.

“I’m looking forward to connecting with the great people across Kootenay East to talk about how the BC NDP will continue to work on their behalf. Having been both a Member of Parliament and a mayor I know how to listen to constituents and resolve problems, and how to ensure that they are always kept well-informed.”

During his 30 years of living in the Kootenays, Stetski has served as the Regional Manager for Fish, Wildlife, Ecosystems and Parks and knows how important healthy wildlife populations and a healthy environment are to those of us who live here. As a director with the Regional District of East Kootenay, he worked on local government’s recommendations for the Columbia River Treaty and participated in the Ktunaxa Treaty negotiations.

Stetski was a Director on the Kootenay East Regional Hospital District Board and a key part of the City of Cranbrook’s physician recruitment team, noting he knows how important good health care is to all of us.

As Member of Parliament, he met with small businesses around the Kootenays to see how federal, provincial and municipal governments could help them be more successful.

Stetski has always believed in giving back to his community and has volunteered for non-profit associations related to education, the environment, arts and culture, kids sports and social services, often serving as the Chair.

“I know people in this area have a long memory, and we all remember the record of the previous Liberal government,” he said. “We know that Andrew Wilkinson is focused on giving tax breaks to his rich friends and cutting services that people depend on.

“John Horgan is the best choice to lead us toward a recovery that works for everyone, and he’ll do it in the context of having the most ambitious climate action plan in Canada, CleanBC. The people of Kootenay East know how important it is to have an MLA who cares about them and is in government, and I am looking forward to representing the great people of this riding as part of John Horgan’s team.”

The provincial election is October 24.
