Winter driving conditions reported

Friday highways update

For those heading out or coming into the East Kootenay this weekend, here is a look at what you might expect on regional highways.

Radium Hot Springs – Highway 93 and 95

Avalanche control will close Highway 93

Highway 93 will be closed Saturday morning (Jan. 5) for avalanche control work between Castle Junction to Vermillion Crossing in Kootenay National Park from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Winter driving conditions

DriveBC reports winter driving or slippery conditions in the following areas:

Highway 3/95 between Moyie and Cranbrook is noted by DriveBC as having “slippery sections.” Chatter on social media says there is glare ice in some areas.

Cranbrook

Highway 3/95 and Highway 3 between Moyie and just west of Curzon Junction on Highway 3 is reported to have black ice in some sections.

Highway 95 from Curzon Junction to the Idaho border has winter driving conditions.

Highway 3/93 from Cranbrook to Wardner has winter driving conditions.

Highway 3 from Junction Road (19 km east of Jaffray) to the Alberta border has winter driving conditions.

Highway 95A has slushy with slippery sections between Highway 3 and Highway 93 for 55.5 km.

Highway 93 has slippery sections between Highway 3 junction and Highway 95A junction at Ta Ta Creek.

Highway 3 at Sparwood

Highway 95 has compact snow between Highway 93 and the end of Highway 95 for 105.3 km (Radium Hot Springs to Golden). Watch for slippery sections.

Slushy areas

Highway 93 between Highway 3 and the Montana border has slushy sections.
