Earthquake recorded near Elkford

Elkford and Sparwood residents may not know it but the earth shook close to them last night.
At 9:19 p.m. last night (Sept. 28), a 2.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded, reported Natural Resources Canada this morning.
The quake, registered at a depth of five kilometres, was “lightly felt in Sparwood and Elkford. There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected.”
The quake occurred 13 km south-southeast of Elkford (76 km east north east of Cranbrook).
The largest quake ever recorded in the region was a 5.0 magnitude trembler on Dec. 11, 1946. A 4.9 M earthquake was recorded on Nov. 15, 2014 and a 4.0 quake occurred April 4, 24, 2015.
