Elk Valley RCMP Report
Elk Valley RCMP responded to 195 calls for service between March 1 and 18.
Police were kept busy with some of the following calls: 10 motor vehicle collisions; two assaults; one sex assault; two criminal harassments; two criminal communications; seven mischief; 11 suspicious person/vehicle/occurrence; three thefts (two under $5,000; one over $5,000; and shoplifting); three bike thefts; and one fraud.
RCMP also wrote 38 motor vehicle infraction tickets.
Costly lessons
Of note, one ticket was written under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act for consumption of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle. The fine for this offence was $230. Another ticket under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act was written to a minor for unlawful sale of cannabis (fine of $575) and minor possessing cannabis (fine $230). A costly lesson.
Four impaired drivers
Four impaired drivers were taken off the streets by Police and received either a 30-day or 90-Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP).
Impaired Driving Prevention Week – Always Drive Sober
Impaired Driving Prevention Week will take place March 17-23, and will focus on the themes of alcohol impaired driving, drug-impaired driving as well as fatigued and distracted driving.
This initiative is in addition to our National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, which will be held on Saturday, May 18, as part of the National Safe Driving Week (May 14-20).
