Elk River FSR fires under investigation

Authorities are investigating and seeking information concerning four human-caused wildfires on June 2 north of Elkford.

At approximately noon on Saturday, June 2, several fires were observed on the Elk River Forest Service Road, outside of the District of Elkford.

Fire crews responded and quickly contained the fires, which were reported by the BC Wildfire Service.

The Ministry of Forests/Natural Resource Office Compliance and Enforcement section are conducting enquiries and have determined that fires occurred at four different locations, with numerous “slash piles” having been set on fire.

RCMP/Ministry of Forests are seeking assistance from the public and request that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the Elk Valley RCMP at 250-425-6233 or RAPP line 1-877-952-7277, reported Cst. Debra Katerenchuk, Media Relations Officer with Elk Valley RCMP Detachment.
