The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the September 12 District of Elkford council meeting.

Active Water Treatment Facility Update; Fording River Operations

TeckmineA delegation from Teck Coal Ltd. provided an overview of the proposed Fording River Operations Active Water Treatment Facility – South Project, the second water treatment project planned under the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan.

The facility will be located at Fording River Operations, approximately 30 km north of Elkford. The projected start of the construction will take place April 2017 and the start of commissioning is planned for December 2018. Teck Coal held a Community Open House in Elkford, September 22.

Elk Valley Recreation Access Pass

The District of Elkford will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the District of Sparwood and the City of Fernie for the sale of an Elk Valley Recreation Access Pass. This annual pass will allow individuals and families to take advantage of recreational facilities in all three Elk Valley municipalities. Watch the district website for more details.

Elkford Aquatic Centre Pool Roof Replacement

Council approved entering into a contract with Metro Roofing and Sheet Metal Ltd. for the replacement of the Elkford Aquatic Centre roof. The project is anticipated to start in October.
