Elkford Council News

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Feb. 14 District of Elkford council meeting.

Urban Deer Management

Council has decided against proceeding with a deer cull in 2017. They wish to thank the Urban Wildlife Management Advisory Committee for their continued efforts addressing wildlife issues, and have directed staff and the committee to continue the work on public education, and to look further into a possible trial hazing program while we await the translocation project results.

Wildcat Days Slo-Pitch Tournament

The district approved the use of the tennis courts, hockey arena and ball fields for the Elkford SloPitch League to host a tournament, beer garden, and dance during the 2017 Wildcat Days.

Community War Memorial

The district will apply for a grant from the Commemorative Partnership Funding Program to create a new community war memorial.

RDEK Elk Valley Victim Assistance Service

On behalf of Elkford’s residents, council consented to the increase to the maximum amount that the RDEK may requisition from Elkford annually for the Elk Valley Victim Assistance Service. Elkford’s maximum requisition will increase from $2,250 to $2,805.

Fire Inspection Policy

The district’s Fire Inspection Policy No. 2000-02 was amended to replace the table outlining the occupancy description of the buildings, frequency of inspections, and the group or division assigned to them. The frequency of inspections is based on the level of risk of fire and life safety.

Bylaws

Five Year Financial Plan Bylaw No. 798, 2017 received its third reading. This bylaw will guide the district’s budgeted activities for 2017 through to 2021.
