The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the July 23 District of Elkford council meeting.

Elkford to be represented at the Pincher Creek Parade

A member of Council will represent Elkford at Pincher Creek’s Rodeo Parade on August 18.

District to submit application for grant from the BC Rural Dividend Funding Program

Council supported an application for an estimated $68,930 grant from the BC Rural Dividend Funding Program. If obtained, the funding will be used to extend the Columba Basin Trust Broadband Corporation fibre-optic network to service district facilities.

Elkford to participate in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Partners for Climate Protection Program

Aligning with the district’s commitment to be a leader in climate change action, council approved participation in the five-milestone program that takes a proven approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Involvement in the program will enhance Elkford’s current repertoire of climate change initiatives, which include the district’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, Community Energy and Emissions Plan and ongoing participation in the Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program.

Bylaws

  • District of Elkford Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 809, 2018 received its third reading. This bylaw will allow the re-designation of a neighborhood commercial mixed-use property to a neighbourhood residential intensification use.
  • District of Elkford Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 810, 2018 received its third reading. This bylaw will allow the rezoning of a property from C-3 neighbourhood commercial to two R-1 single-unit residential properties.
